QUADRILATERAL BOREHOLE PROJECT
|
The Blessed Peace Children’s home is a safe haven for sexually abused, neglected and orphaned children. It is located 3 kilometres from Makindu town along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, 100 miles from the capital city Nairobi, Kenya. The orphanage hosts 75 rescued children and reaches out to other 125 children within their families.
Lack of water for drinking, irrigation and household use has been a challenge in the centre. As the Makindu region is hot, characterized by little rainfall, the centre has suffered from water shortage. An appeal for the development of a borehole at the centre was well received by the Club. This would not only provide clean water for drinking, cooking and household use but would revive irrigation for farm produce, thus improving the health of the children, and also enhance the sustainability of the centre. Water was found at a depth of 150 metres and the project was completed and handed over to the orphanage in the first week of September 2025. Three separate water lines have been installed:

Club member Gurdip Bahra, the Project Co-ordinator, visited the orphanage on 14th February 2026 and was moved to see how this project has transformed the lives of the children and the local community.
Our Club partnered with other service clubs including several Lions Clubs in the U.K, and contributed £10,000 towards a total budget of £20,000. Thank you Rotary Club of Saint-Cloud, Rotary Club of Tivoli and Rotary Club of Bonn Süd-Bad Godesberg for your support. |
