Supporting Our Local Community

Helping the local community is one of the primary roles of Rotary and you may have seen Rotarians at work supporting communities without even realising it.

At the Rotary Club of Maidenhead we take our community service seriously.  We always strive to give back to the area in which we work and live.  Our club has engaged in the following activities:
  • Christmas parties, Spring tea parties and Summer river trips for the elderly
  • Taking children to Thorpe Park as part of Rotary Kids Day Out
  • Organising the annual Maidenhead Boundary Walk
  • Organising the annual family Bikeathon
  • Organising Maidenhead's Got Talent

We collect donations of winter fuel allowance from those who consider they do not need it and redistribute it via the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Salvation Army to those in need.

Charity Projects

Over the years, the Rotary Club of Maidenhead has raised thousands of pounds for charities, both in the local community and worldwide, including:
  • International Youth Camps
  • Dementia Nurses
  • Polio Plus
  • Maidenhead Sea Scouts
  • Maidenhead Salvation Army
  • Nepal Disaster
  • Timbertown
  • WaterAid Shelterbox

The Rotary Club of Maidenhead has an associated registered charity (Rotary Club of Maidenhead Trust Fund, charity number 1025051), so that anyone making a donation can find out more about us.

Club International Projects

Rotary is an international organisation and also the largest Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in the world.

Each club has a role to play to make the worldwide community a better place to live.  We seek to support overseas projects where we are able to make a positive difference in an area where it is greatly needed.

Our current projects

  • Makindu Dental Clinic in Kenya:  This is a twice monthly dental clinic where facilities & dental treatment are available, free of charge, to patients who would otherwise not have access to this
  • Chachoki Eye Camp: Our annual eye camp in the Punjab provides eye care & cataract surgery to people in a rural area.  Last year 550 people were screened & approximately 150 were treated for cataracts.  This Maidenhead project has proved so successful that now others are trying to help further villages/areas in a similar way
  • Aarti Children’s Home and School:  We have been greatly encouraged to see the difference that our support is making to Aarti Children's Home and School in Southern India, where abandoned and abused children are rescued and given education and the chance of a life, where they can develop independence and skills for a better future
  • On-going support for the excellent work of Shelterbox (see below), which provides families with vital equipment to rebuild their lives after a disaster or humanitarian crisis

ShelterBox and Rotary extend our partnership in the Philippines

ShelterBox and Rotary International are Project Partners in Disaster Relief. By working together, we are ensuring that no family is left without shelter after disaster. Not only do Rotary and Rotaract clubs around the world support ShelterBox financially, but on many of ShelterBox’s deployments local Rotarians, Rotaractors and Response Teams work closely together at an operational level. Rotarians often have great connections with communities and authorities that can help response teams understand the situation and respond better together.

Recently, in the Philippines, ShelterBox and Rotary have taken this partnership to the next level. ShelterBox has deployed disaster responses in the Philippines on twenty-five separate occasions. To innovate our responses, ShelterBox Operations Philippines was set-up as an in-country organization with aid stored locally so that we can respond more effectively.
