More than 40 older people enjoyed an afternoon boat trip along the River Thames courtesy of Maidenhead Rotary Club. The event, which took place in September, last ran in 2019 and was making a welcome return after being put on hold for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The 42 guests boarded the boat 'Windsor Monarch' opposite Jenner’s Cafe for an afternoon cruise downstream to Windsor including a tea of sandwiches and cakes prepared by Rotary helpers. Event organisers Graham Brunsden and Pat Lattimer were supported by a team of 21 Rotarians and members of their families. As well as preparing and serving refreshments, they drove | guests to the boat and home again and helped them safely aboard. Rotarian Pat Lattimer said: “During the pandemic many older people lost much of their social contact and the aim of the event was to provide a social treat to older members of the community. “It was a great success and was very much enjoyed by our guests. The skipper gave an entertaining commentary on the scenery and places of interest along the route and the hard work of all our volunteers in preparing and serving the afternoon tea was greatly appreciated.” |
