56 members and their wives/partners, Rotarians from other clubs in our District along with our “Rotary in Maidenhead” clubs of Maidenhead Bridge and Maidenhead Rotaract, and other guests, attended the evening meeting of the club on Monday 27th February. We were all enthralled by the commitment and dedication of two young speakers who rounded off our month of “Foundation” Centenary celebrations.
The two speakers were members of the District Foundation Scholars programme and were Shalmalee Ghate – studying for M.Phil in Development Studies at University of Oxford and Green Templeton College from District 3181 India and Madison Little – studying an MSc in Evidence based intervention and policy evaluation at University of Oxford and Green Templeton College. From District 7500 USA.
Shalmalee told her audience that she was studying the influence of China’s development of parts of Africa and Madison told us about his studies into the spread of AIDs into Africa.
Some of our other special guests at the meeting were Karen Eveleigh, Foundation Chair, from the Rotary Club of Oxford Spires and Deborah Holland-Axtell, from the District Scholars Programme.

This was the last meeting placed in the careful hands of our President, John Miles Griffiths and at the end of the meeting he handed the President's Jewel on to Rotarian David Cager who will complete this Rotary year’s Presidency. As one of his final acts as President, John also presented the Vice President's Jewel to Rotarian Gurdip Bhara (see left). |
