Rotary District 1090 Golf Day, Burnham Beeches Golf Club, 6th April 2016 Four and a half hours in the afternoon of April 6th saw pouring rain, gorgeous sunshine, heavy winds, hints of hail, and occasional bouts of brilliant golf. Had our team continued as on hole one, ours would have been every trophy; but, occasional bouts of the mediocre to disastrous stood in our way. Two umbrellas went inside out. Fortunately the club president, Tony Lodge, as non playing captain, was there as engineer in action, and as an asset in motivating the players. Grahame Fisher, Eddie and Eileen Clarke and Tony Hill enjoyed the golf, as a team, scoring well on the Burnham Beeches course, which was in great condition. Eileen Clarke did particularly well winning the women’s trophy. The golf experience was very good, the District organisation smooth and Burnham Beeches high quality – and, as District Governor Fred King said in thanking us all, we had contributed to the two Charities, Thames Valley Playground, and Helen and Douglas House. A beautifully judged chicken liver pate, followed by rolled belly of pork, exquisitely cooked, and rich chocolate profiteroles, with good company, were the reward for our golf team. Recommended for all Rotary Golfers next year! |
