Maidenhead Show, Saturday 14th September, 2019 Our club participated in the 6th Annual Maidenhead Show with a stand advertising "Rotary in Maidenhead". It was a beautiful day with clear skies and our aim was to put our "Rotary message" out to the visitors to the Show. Lisa Hunter (Maidenhead Bridge) kindly loaned us a “Marbles Game” where the object was to fill an upturned flower pot with as many marbles as you could in 1 minute. Sounds easy doesn’t it, but not when you realise that you can only use a wooden mixing bowl spoon to handle and channel the marbles into the hole in the base of the upturned plant pot and do this against the clock!! A number of young people, and some older ones, had great fun trying this and we awarded a box of chocolates to the highest number of marbles “captured” each hour. |
The picture shows one of our members, Pat Moore, receiving his prize for holding the best score of marbles in our final hour at the show. Pat was one of the many adults who tried their hands at the challenge. Also in the picture is our Immediate Past President Anne Matkin. We made a small profit on the game and the proceeds will be split between our club and Maidenhead Bridge Club.
We also succeeded in recording 3 potential new people interested in becoming Rotarians, not a bad result for the afternoon!
Paul Mapletoft, Peter Silverthorne, Pat Moore, Jim Howles, Pat Lattimer, Yash Maudgil and myself helped on the day, and volunteers from Maidenhead Bridge assisted in manning the stand for the event. Well done to you all.
