From the desk of the President
This month has been principally about one of our major Community Events of the year - the “Maidenheads Got Talent” young persons event. Your organising committee have been working extremely hard under the Chairmanship of Rotarian Sean Egan. The event showcases the musical talent of some of our areas young people and gives them an opportunity to shine.
I am sure that members know that this event is a splendid example of cooperation between the four Rotary Clubs (Thames, Bridge, Rotaract and ourselves) working as a cohesive team and with Sean at the head and a group of very talented people on his committee is on course to achieve a great event.
Those of us not directly involved in this organisation should understand the amazing amount of background work which has been going on for the last 9 months. Great work Sean and team.
On the subject of cohesion, Tony Lodge and I attended a meeting of the Four Presidents (normally held every two months) to ensure that programmes don’t clash and to offer support for each others events.
These meeting are also a great example of cooperation in our area and an ability to show a “common face” about Rotary matters at our public events.
One of the topics discussed was the allocation of around £125 (from District coffers) per Rotary club for publicity this year. The presidents agreed on a common approach to purchase publicity banner material featuring “Rotary in Maidenhead” which should further identify our branding to people in our area.
This month also saw the last phase of the “Visioning Project” for our Club. Over the last 12 months we have prepared and have discussed all aspects of our Clubs future at successive lunchtime meetings. This series has now ended and your Council, under the careful management of Secretary Howard McBrien will in due course produce a written document summarising our members thoughts and ideas for the next 5 years. This document it is hoped will be used when we look at new projects or areas of Service which we inevitably will consider in the future.
Grateful thanks to Ian and Jo Thomas for their organisation of the “Chinese New Year” event.
Thats all for now, best regards,
President Frank
