Maidenhead’s Rotary clubs have teamed up with Rotary clubs across the Thames Valley to support two important outdoor family areas at the newly-opened Thames Hospice.
The clubs will be sponsoring the family courtyard and the bereavement garden at the hospice site near Bray Lake, which opened its doors in October last year.

Thames Hospice provides expert care for people living with life-limiting illnesses in East Berkshire and South Bucks. A vital part of its work is also supporting their families and carers. “The family courtyard is accessible through our visitors’ room and our Inpatient Unit and is a peaceful space filled with flowers and stepping stones for families and children to spend time together or have a break when visiting loved ones at the hospice,” explained Jane Symmons from the hospice. “The bereavement garden allows for quiet contemplation for family and friends who are dealing with a recent bereavement and gives privacy within a walled garden containing an infinity pond and lots of places to sit.” Maidenhead Rotary Club has committed to contributing £2,500 towards the funding effort, and has previously helped to provide garden furniture for the family courtyard. | President Mary Spinks said: “All the Rotary Clubs in Maidenhead and in the surrounding area are pleased to continue with funding this great new amenity that serves our communities so well.” It costs £12 million a year to keep the hospice running. It relies on the community for more than 50 per cent of the funds it needs to raise annually to provide its services free of charge, 365 days a year. |
