This year's Tea Party was held in the St John's Ambulance Hall, York Road on Sunday 30th April. It was a great success due in no small part to having our President, the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of the Royal Borough, John and Margaret Lenton and his wife staying for most of the afternoon and sitting down to tea with our guests. Both the Deputy Mayor and his wife gave very complimentary speeches with reference to the Rotary Club and the members who gave up their time to give senior citizens such a pleasant afternoon. |
Also thanks is obviously due to the ladies who had made a variety of sandwiches and cakes which looked and tasted delicious, and were served after a glass of sherry. The tea was then finished off with fruit salad in jelly, and ice cream.
I would also like to mention the entertainers: Freddie Simmonds who is the retired Mace Bearer of the Royal Borough, and his friend Michelle. Freddie played a keyboard and sang while Michelle had the guests answering a quiz based on sweets, and then gave each guest a prettily wrapped prize of chocolate bars. Freddie asked for the payment for his performance to be given to charity - a very generous gesture. So all in all a very pleasant afternoon.
